With the onset of the CIS lab staff opening our SandBox, I thought I would do a quick blog post about the internet in general. Be sure to ask your friendly CIS tutors if you have any questions about the world wide web. We are already moving into Web 3.0, never mind Web 2.0, but this video still has very relevant information about the Internet today.
The Machine is Us/ing Us brings up good points about how the web is no longer about linking information, it is about linking people. With the semantic web, we go even further. Now, we aren’t even about linking people anymore, we are linking meaning. As the video brings up, we will have to rethink a few things. Privacy, Governance, How to do it for starters. We feed The Machine every day when we use tags and when we put content into the World Wide Web. When you tag something, it doesn’t just show up on that website, but maybe YouTube, Google, Facebook, etc. In general the massive amounts of information so far isn’t being organized very well, but we’re working on it!
