The Contest
The Bentley Computer Information Systems Department is holding a logo contest (“the contest”) for students to create a logo for the newly renovated CIS Sandbox located in Smith 234. All students are eligible to participate. Read past the break for info and great prizes!!
The CIS Sandbox Vision and Mission
The term “Sandbox” in industry refers to an environment for experimentation and trying new things. That’s our vision – to create an inviting, collaborative space for exploring and learning new technologies, and to support student learning for our courses, in ways that resonate with today’s digital students. We hope this will further their interest in Information Technology.
Contest Format
The Contest will run from 12:00:00 a.m. EST on Monday, October 24, 2011 until 11:59:59 p.m. EST on Wednesday November 16, 2011. You are invited to submit a logo that best represents the mission statement and vision of the CIS Sandbox. Criteria will include, but are not limited to:
- Creativity
- Design Simplicity
- Color choices
- Conveys the following themes:
- Technology
- Computers
- Bentley University
- Learning
- Playing
- Teaching
- Building
- The design must include the words “CIS Sandbox” or “CIS Learning and Technology Sandbox”
- The design may include the words “Computer Information Systems” instead of “CIS”
- The design may include the words “Bentley” or “Bentley University”
The image should be easily scalable and adaptable to different uses and contexts – it should look good whether blown up on a t-shirt or shrunk to fit on the side of a pen.
All entries must be original and not based on pre-existing designs.
How to Submit
- Images should be submitted in .png format.
- 504 x 360 pixels with the resolution of at least 72 pixels/inch
- Logo should use at most two colors
- RGB color may be 8 bit
- Recommended programs to use are Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Paint.NET, or Sumopaint.com
If any of the above programs were used please keep a copy of the original file as well. If your design is chosen, we will ask you to submit the original file. Also, if your submission is selected, you may be asked to make minor adjustments to it as requested by the judges.
Email your submission, along with your name, and a phone number where we can reach you if you are the winner, to ga_cis_sandbox(@)bentley.edu. Don’t include the parentheses, they’re just spam armor!
All entrants will receive an email (from a real, live person) within 24 hours acknowledging the submission.
How to Vote
After all entries are received, the judges will select the top three entries and voting will begin.
In order to be eligible to vote, you must have swiped in to the CIS Sandbox at least once prior to November 16, 2011 or like the Bentley CIS Sandbox Facebook Page.
On November 21, 2011 all eligible voters will receive an email with instructions how to vote online. This voting process will continue until November 28. The judges will declare the winner at the CIS Sandbox Open House on December 1st. The decision of the judges is final.
By submitting a logo to this contest online, you certify the following statement “I certify that I am the author of the material I am submitting to the Computer Information Systems Sandbox Logo Contest. Bentley University, the Computer Information Systems Department, and its tutoring labs and its licensees may reproduce, distribute, publish, display, edit, modify, create derivative works and otherwise use the material for any purpose in any form and on any media, without any compensation to me. I agree to indemnify all of the above for all damages and expenses that may be incurred in connection with the material submitted.”
Prizes
- First Place: iPod Nano!!! and early access to promotional items on which the logo may be used. (Shirts, pens, mouse pads, etc)
- Second Place: $50 Amazon.com gift card
- Third Place: Xbox 360 or PC game from Microsoft
