Lab projects use virtual reality (VR),<br \/>\naugmented reality (AR), and 360\u00ba video to support research on user experience (UX) design,<br \/>\nhuman-computer interaction (HCI), and data visualization. Current VR projects focus on<br \/>\napplications to architecture, sustainability, and healthcare. Other projects focus on interaction<br \/>\ndesign for screen-based interfaces (e.g., web design), and developing novel creative interfaces<br \/>\n(e.g., music, art).<\/p>\n<p>Software Engineers will have opportunities to develop a code base that will support projects in<br \/>\nthe new lab, collaborate with faculty and graduate students at Bentley and other institutions, and<br \/>\ncontribute to research that will be presented at conferences and published in journals.<\/p>\n<p><b>Minimum qualifications:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Understanding of basic computer programming concepts and tools<\/li>\n<li>Experience using one or more general purpose programming languages<br \/>\n(e.g., Java, C#, C\/C++, Python)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Preferred qualifications:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Portfolio of software development projects (e.g., via GitHub)<\/li>\n<li>Strong verbal and written communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Computer skills, proficiency with MS Office<\/li>\n<li>Successful completion of Bentley\u2019s CITI Training Program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Familiarity with or strong willingness to learn the following:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Virtual (VR) and augmented (AR) reality systems (e.g., HTC Vive, Oculus Rift)<\/li>\n<li>Data visualization and data analysis skills<\/li>\n<li>Statistical tools (e.g., R, SPSS, Excel)<\/li>\n<li>Computer programming (e.g., C#, Python, GitHub)<\/li>\n<li>3D modeling (e.g., 3DS Max, Maya, Blender)<\/li>\n<li>Game development tools (e.g., Unity3D, Unreal)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Preferred availability:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Available to assist at the lab (located on campus in Lindsay) for at least 5-10 hrs \/ week<\/li>\n<li>Availability during the summer is a plus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Examples of potential projects:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop a code base (GitHub) for VR\/AR projects on sustainability, healthcare, architecture<\/li>\n<li>Manage and help improve the lab\u2019s information technology resources<\/li>\n<li>Develop code and other resources to support data visualization and analysis<\/li>\n<li>Creative programming for interdisciplinary projects, performances, and installations bridging<br \/>\nmusic, art, and data science (Processing\/Java, Max\/MSP, C#)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Application Materials:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in applying, please send a resume\/CV (including GPA and class standing,<br \/>\nmax 2 pages), cover letter (max 1 page), and 3 professional references to Jonathan Ericson<br \/>\n(<a href=\"mailto:jericson@bentley.edu\">jericson@bentley.edu<\/a>), Assistant Professor, IDCC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new virtual reality lab on campus is seeking Bentley graduate and undergraduate student volunteers for Software Engineer positions (2 available).
