{"id":5990,"date":"2016-09-21T14:57:50","date_gmt":"2016-09-21T18:57:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cis.bentley.edu\/sandbox\/?p=5990"},"modified":"2016-09-21T16:24:57","modified_gmt":"2016-09-21T20:24:57","slug":"galaxy-note-7-recall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cissandbox.bentley.edu\/sandbox\/index.php\/2016\/09\/21\/galaxy-note-7-recall\/","title":{"rendered":"Galaxy Note 7 Recall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Samsung recently released the Galaxy Note 7, bragging about the new stylus, security and protection features, and increased storage.\u00a0 The phone has an iris scanner to unlock, in order to protect user\u2019s data more effectively.\u00a0 It is also water-resistant, and can survive thirty minutes under five feet of water.\u00a0 The device is quite impressive.\u00a0 However, Samsung failed to predict that the battery would overheat to the point of explosion.\u00a0 Due to the use of low quality batteries, excessive use and charging of the phone may cause fires or explosions.\u00a0 The problem stems from a production error that placed pressure on the batteries, causing opposite poles to get too close and overheat while charging.\u00a0 Because of this, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled one million Note 7s, advising to power the device off as soon as possible and return it.\u00a0 Samsung received over 90 reports of fires, some of which caused injury or property damage. \u00a0Airlines have banned the phone on flights, whether in the cabin or in checked luggage.\u00a0 Some public transportation systems have done the same thing.\u00a0 Although the recall only affects 0.1% of Galaxy Note 7 users, it can be a huge hazard when brought into a public location.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cis.bentley.edu\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/note7-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"note7\" width=\"549\" height=\"309\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5991\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cissandbox.bentley.edu\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/note7-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cissandbox.bentley.edu\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/note7-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cissandbox.bentley.edu\/sandbox\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/note7.jpg 780w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 549px) 100vw, 549px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Luckily for Galaxy Note 7 users, replacement phones are available.\u00a0 It may take a few weeks because the new phones need to be approved by the CPSC.\u00a0 Until then, Samsung will provide users with a loaner phone in the form of the Galaxy J-series.\u00a0 Once the new phones are in, users have the option of getting a brand new Note 7, or settling for the S7 or S7 Edge, with a refund for the difference in price.\u00a0 In addition to the replacement, Samsung is giving the affected customers a $25 gift card or phone bill credit.\u00a0 Each mobile carrier has its own plan as well.\u00a0 All the large carriers are allowing returns and giving refunds or exchanges when the new phones arrive.\u00a0 The only exception is Verizon, which has stopped selling the Note 7 and has only pledged to waive the restocking fee if users return their phones (Verizon being cheap? Not surprising).\u00a0 Safe to say, I\u2019m glad I didn\u2019t buy a Note 7. \u00a0Apple: 1.\u00a0 Android: 0.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a
