Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 were released to the public recently and brought with them a slew of changes and new features. Most notable is the return of Windows’ traditional Start button. Microsoft also included many user interface changes and customization options to the operating systems with these new releases. Also improved is multitasking, search, and SkyDrive-integration. Windows 8.1 is available now as a free upgrade for Windows 8 in the Windows Store. Windows Server 2012 R2 marks a new release rather than an incremental update and as such requires an additional purchase.<\/p>\n

Some reviewers see these as welcomed upgrades, while others tout them as too little, too late for Microsoft. I for one enjoy the improved multitasking and snapping functionality in Windows 8.1 and am excited about Windows Server 2012 R2’s new Failover Clustering modes.
